The Third Dance

Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor return to the Israel Festival with a new adaptation to Liat Dror and Nir Ben-Gal’s The Third Dance (1990).
Six years after debuting their version of Dror and Ben-Gal’s Two Room Apartment – declared “Best Performance of the Year” by the Circle of Israeli Dance Critics (2013) – Sheinfeld and Laor meet for another creative collaboration on one stage.

A couple in life and on stage, the two give us a thrilling opportunity to revisit a seminal dance text in the history of Israeli dance and look at it through the lens of the time that passed since their last duet: the changes in their bodies, in their relationship, in their perception of stage and space, and in their relation to the audience.

The Third Dance touches on romanticism and all of its clichés: music by Mahler, flowers, and a record player. Underneath all of these reverberates one seemingly simple request: “tell me that you love me.” At first addressed to one another, at a certain point they direct the demand at the audience, expressing a persistent wish: to continue to be moved, overcome the mundanity of life, be relevant, and gain recognition – both one another’s and others’.

Choreographed and performed by Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor / Inspired by The Third Dance by Liat Dror and Nir Ben Gal (1990) / Music: Gustav Mahler / Rehearsal director and consultant: Yael Venezia / Artistic consultant: Keren Levi
